OpusX premiered in New York City on November 18, 1995. Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr. planted Corojo seed on the Chateau de la Fuente farm in El Caribe, near Bonao in the Dominican Republic, in 1991, and that shade grown leaf became the wrapper. With Dominican filler and binder under it, OpusX is a full flavored Dominican puro.
Arturo Fuente makes it by hand at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. in Santiago, with each size assigned to its own roller. Production is limited to roughly 600,000 to 700,000 cigars a year, and the cigars age at least a year before release. The OpusX Double Corona was named Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year in 2005. Toro stocks the core sizes along with special releases like Lost City, Angel's Share and Oro Oscuro as they come in. For the Fuente line built on the old perfecto molds, see Hemingway.
