The Story
About this cigar
Ramon Allones by AJ Fernandez Toro (6 x 52, Box of 20)
This one is personal for AJ.
Ramon Allones was his father’s favorite brand back in Cuba. It is also the first handmade cigar in history to ever wear a band. By 2017 the name had all but fallen off the map in the US, so AJ took the brand over outright, production, sales, and marketing, and rebuilt it from the ground up.
He spared no expense.
The wrapper is a rare Medio Tiempo Habano Oscuro, the highest priming on the plant and the hardest leaf to get. Oily, chocolate brown, with a rosado tint when the light catches it. Under it sits an aged Corojo ’99 binder and a filler of Nicaraguan Criollo ’98 from Condega, Corojo ’99 from Jalapa, Pueblo Nuevo, and a hybrid leaf grown in Esteli.
Tasting notes: white pepper and cedar from the first light, then chocolate, earth, espresso, cashew, and a distinct sweetness. Thick finish, intense retrohale.
Medium to full. Never hot, never harsh, never unbalanced.
Each cigar sleeved in cedar. Presented in decorated cedar chests of 20.
92 rating. #22 Cigar of 2021. #25 Cigar of 2018.
Handmade at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Esteli, Nicaragua.
